Behavioral Health Services
CFPS Behavioral Health offers skills-based intervention services. Our Parent Management and Social Skills Services are designed for children who have behavior and social skills challenges associated with diagnoses such as ADHD, Opposition Defiance, Adjustment, and Autism Level 1 (Verbal, high-functioning). Delivered by Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs), and overseen by Licensed Professionals, our BT Services address issues such as:
- Argumentative
- Temper tantrums
- Frequently questions and/or refuses to comply with rules
- Impulsivity
- Impatience
- Shouts or laughs inappropriately
- Off-task Behavior
- Poor Boundaries
- Difficulty with social cues
- Difficulty with social communication
- Difficulty making friends
- Sensation-seeking behaviorOur services consist of two components:
- Parent Training (or Skills Training – Parent). Parent training is delivered directly to parents or guardians in-person or via telehealth. Parent Training is designed to support behavior management and improvement in parent-child communication. Our providers are trained in evidenced-based intervention methods including Parent Management Training, which is designed for parents of children with moderate behavioral difficulties; and Nurturing Parenting, which is designed to improve family functioning. Each session is approximately 1 hour long.
- Skills Training (or Skills Training – Child). Skills training is delivered directly to the child/adolescent face-to-face. While delivered directly to the child/adolescent, parental participation is expected. Ideally, training is provided in the home or school setting, where behavior difficulties are most likely to occur. In contrast to therapy or counseling, a process where an individual meets with a trained professional counselor to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives, Skills training employs a four-part training approach to teach essential prosocial skills to children and adolescents. It targets specific behavioral concerns. Our providers are trained in evidence-based intervention methods including Skills Streaming and Aggression Replacement Techniques, and Barkley’s Defiant Child and Teen. Each session is approximately 1 hour long.
How Does it work?
In most cases, Behavioral Health Services includes both parenting and child components. Services are provided via telehealth and on-site. Examples of on-site locations include in your home, at the child’s school (with appropriate permissions in place) or at another location in the community that is appropriate to the needs of your family. The duration of services depends on the needs of the child and your family. In severe cases, we recommend more frequent and intense services initially and then taper down to a schedule that is less frequent over time. However, participants initially agree to a minimum 4-week intervention program, with a minimum of one Parent Training and one Skills Training – Child session each week.
These services are designed to meet mental health rehabilitation and targeted case management support needs of children experiencing behaviors related to ADHD (impulsivity, hyperactivity, inattentiveness) and disruptive behaviors (defiance, aggression, oppositional).
With the exception of Medicaid and its managed care programs, most insurance carriers do not cover behavioral support services. While we will attempt to submit claims to clients’ insurance provider for the portions of service that may be covered upon request, we require payment for 50% of the 4-week minimum at the start of service. The program price is $200 per week, so the initial amount due is $400. The final 50% ($400) is due at the last session of the 4-week intervention program.
