CFPS Behavioral Health ServicesCFPS Behavioral Health offers mental health rehabilitation and targeted case management to children, adolescents, and their families in North Texas (see below for a list of the counties in our service area). We call these services “Community Support Services”.
Community Support Services offered by CFPS-BH include Skills Training and Routine Mental Health Case Management. Skills Training as an enhancement to existing, ongoing counseling services dramatically improves outcomes for the client and their family. To be clear, Skills Training is not the same thing as counseling or therapy.
Skills Training
CFPS Behavioral Health offers mental health rehabilitation and targeted case management to children, adolescents, and their families in North Texas
Skills training employs a four-part training approach to teach essential prosocial skills to children and adolescents. It targets specific behavioral concerns. In contrast, counseling is a process where an individual, couple, or family meets with a trained professional counselor to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives. Therapists provide a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and nonjudgmental.
In most cases, Skills Training services are provided in your home but might also occur at a child’s school (with appropriate permissions in place) or at another location in the community that is appropriate to the needs of your family. The frequency and duration of services depend on the needs of the child and your family and can range from as little as an hour every other week to several hours a day. In severe cases, we recommend more frequent and intense services initially and then taper down to a schedule that is less frequent over time.
